      What a lovely question

Beauty is very much in the eye of the beholder! 😛 excellent choice and reasons for liking Water Lilys (Nuphar lutea) :), I feel everybody should have a favourite plant!

Call me old fashioned or too mainsteam, but in my opinion, the prettiest plant is a good old red Rose (Rosa gallica)! As a big Arsenal FC fan, the colour is particularly attractive to me!

Arsenal’s away kit is Yellow and i’m quite partial to Cowslips (Primula veris) too 🙂

      Happy walking 😀

It’s great to start the day with such a nice question!

Mine are orchids, they’re really interesting and brightly coloured – they vary from pink and spotty to sunshine yellow to white. There are also some really cool ones called bee orchids, so called because of their pollinators (I think!) but their petals look like bees sitting on them too!

My personal favourite is any blossom flowers (found on trees that give stone fruits like peaches or plums) – again, great to see on a nice walk. I really like it when the petals fall in the spring and it is almost like walking through snow.

At the moment I also have some daffodils in my house – I like buying the unopened flowers from the shops and waiting for them to burst open – I’m not an Arsenal supporter like Michael, but I do love the colour yellow as well.

Good choice with water lilys – they are brilliant. I find it fascinating how the plant is able to live without drowning (most plants don’t do well with too much water).

My favorite flower is the Nigella. I like the complexity of its shape.
The flower is built in different floors. There is at least 3 rows of sepals and the same of petals. The carpels and stamens are disposed almost like a sculpture.
And at the same time they are very fragile and gracile flower and the plant is small and annual (leaves only from spring to winter and die).

Water lillies are very interesting flower! Did you know that the plant can only open 1 flower at the time? So it as more than one flower ready or almost ready to open but keep them as buds underwater and only open one. This one flower last 3 to 4 days only and close at night to keep prisoner inside of the petals a flying insect that will pollinate it and get the pollen of the flower by trying to escape of the trap. At the morning the flower open and the insect escape covered of pollen. hopefully it was transporting the pollen of another water lily when it entered in the flower first and has pollinate it after the night.
the Victoria water lily (the giant one) also change color. It is white on the first day and become pink on the second day. this is the sign the flower as been pollinated!

I think my favorite flower is the crocus. This is because my favorite time of the year is summer. Usually you start to see crocuses around the place at the start of spring, so when I see them I know that winter is over and summer is on the way!

If you are able to you should try and go to Kew Gardens in London. They have giant Water Lilys on one of their ponds that are big enough for a person to sit in! There’s a picture here: http://www.kew.org/visit-kew-gardens/garden-attractions-A-Z/waterlily-house.htm
