In Plant Science, there is a plant called Thale Cress (Arabidopsis thaliana). This is used as a “model organism”, which basically means it is the “lab rat” of the plant world. People all over the world look at this plant scientifically, as did I during my Undergraduate project. I was shocked to find out something about it which nobody else has.
I showed and reliably proved significant differences in the root development, if you grow them in a lab compared to in soil.

Something which may seem small and boring to many, but shocking and exciting for me.

Finally, although I love plants and like to think I know a lot about them. I am terrible at keeping my own. I do however have a cactus which sits on my desk, and is still very happy even though i forget about it for months on end, shocking indeed.
