My favourite topic in science is plants which is why I’m a plant scientist!!! I think it is very important to study plants because we depend on them so much for everything in our lives – food, oxygen and materials to make things with. Without plants we wouldn’t be here!

In particular I find photosynthesis really interesting! Photosynthesis is the way that plants use carbon dioxide light to make energy. I find it really amazing that plants can make the energy they need just from sunlight, they don’t need to eat food like we do. If I had a superpower I think it would be the ability to photosynthesise!!

My favourite area of science is biochemistry – which is studying how different chemicals and molecules interact with eachother inside biology – like how things in cells work with eachother. I think its amazing how different biological chemicals work together – they can fit like a lock and key.

I think evolution is amazing too – how we went from a single bacteria to become humans, whilst the same bacteria also evolved into amazing plants like the giant sequoia tree.

When I was at school I loved physics and maths – but as I got older I got stolen away by the amazingness of plant science and biology

Definitely plants!!! Specifically plant disease because it’s interesting (you get to use loads of different techniques and look at both the genetic level and protein level) and also because it’s really relevant – there will always be a need to improve crop yields for food security! It’s also super fun because you get to infect plants with stuff and see what happens!

In science my favorite topic is evolution. The reason is that there is so many variation in species around us so many form an behavior but we all come from a same ancestor, an accident maybe just derived from chemicals that have assemble to produce a self reproducing first cell. And then from that a brand all new complexity has appears and by changing DNA sequences, little by little various and numerous organism have been created.
I definitively would like to understand how this has happen what mechanism has been at the origin of the production of new genes and how these genes have been used to develop new functions in organism. All the same but so different.

      Plants for me too,

I was lucky to have done a very broad science degree which involved all parts of biology, and plants are where I find my successes and interest were. This was mainly because I realised how essential plants are in all part of our lives.
