My job is really important to me. I have always wanted to be a scientist, and I couldn’t imagine having a job that wasn’t in science. As for plants, they are essential for food and producing oxygen, and so if I can improve our knowledge of plants and improve the plants we eat, that makes me excited and motivates me to work really hard. For me, as soon as I started studying plants I knew that it was the topic I wanted to stay working in – I guess you could say it was love at first sight… (or at the first facts).
If you aren’t happy in your job, you won’t be productive. I really like what I do and where I work, and it shows in what I achieve.

Absolutely! I think if you go into science as a career it has to be important to you, it’s definitely one of those jobs where what you put in influences what you get out of it, and once you get really involved in a project you’ll always be thinking up new stuff to try and getting excited about the results. That does mean that the flip side is that if it’s going horribly you’ll be super grumpy!

      Most definitely!

It is very important to me to do a job that helps people and contributes towards making the world we live in a better place. Working with plants lets me do this.

I chose to work with plants because they are so important for us to live on the planet. Plants provide the oxygen for us to breath, take away carbon dioxide, and provide us with food. Even if you are a meat eater, the animals you eat were fed on plants. Everyone is dependent on plants in some way!

The work I am doing is adding towards everything we already know about wheat and other plants, which will help in the future with producing food, and conserving endangered species in the wild.

yes it is! Doing research in general is really important! Without it we would not know so many things… and could not do much more.
Research in plant is particularly important as plants are the primary source of food, medicine and even more important the maintnance of the ecosystem.
Without we could not leave. And because the populations are increasing and the the environment is put at risk by our needs it is more than ever important to understand plant in order to find a way to improve our use of them as a resource. One of the next challenge for example is the decrease of phosphorus fertilizers. Without them we are not able to continue to produce yields from crop plants as we do. researcher working t understand the needs of plant in phosphorus and the interaction of the plant with soil and microbes in the acquisition of this nutrient have an important role in the future mankind health.
As a scientist you do not work for money or just because you enjoy it (even if I really enjoy what I am doing) you also have a responsibility in trying to improve mankind and earth future. So it matter a lot.
