My biggest piece of advice here is to try and find any way you can to get involved in science. Find out if your school has a science club (if it doesn’t, as them to start one!) and try and get involved in lots of science trips. Make your parents take you to places like the science museum or natural history museum. If you find an area of science that you are really interested in, start looking it up online and trying to learn more.

If you work hard and pass your GCSEs and A levels with good grades, you can go to University. If you have spent your childhood getting involved, and really love science, it will be easy to get into a Science University course. Once you are at University, you are nearly there!

I would say if you want to be a scientist then go for it and don’t ever give up!

Science can be tough, and you have to work really hard, but the rewards you get for all the hard work are amazing. When you finally understand the answer to a problem you’ve been struggling on, or when you get some amazing data it can feel amazing!

Yes, certainly to not give up! My other advice would be to keep your options open for as long as possible before deciding where you would like to specialise. I found and loved plants at a late stage. But I was studying a nice broad biology degree which had modules in everything from forensics, marine biology and human diseases!

I enjoyed and love it all, I’m so glad I had to opportunity to study them, but plants were the area for me 🙂

Science is hard work, but it can be fun and I am happy to recommend it to anyone who is interested!
