All the GM food that is made is made using genes from one plant put into another plant. This means that the new plant only has stuff in it that is already found in plants – and usually found in plants we eat!
Sometimes the new genes don’t even make something new – they just increase the amount of something that is already there – like increasing the beneficial antioxidants already found in tomato skins.

Any new GM foods are also thoroughly tested to ensure that they are completely safe to eat. All new food brought into the UK is!

I am not personally concerned by GM foods, I find them fascinating and have huge potential to make the world a better place.

There is much to learn, but safety tends to be the highest priority when developing these plants.

Some people are afraid, and this is fair enough, but I feel with a better and clearer understanding of how GM plants work, people will see the good and understand the efforts which goes into testing the safety of such plants 🙂
